How do I get my binding to be smooth on scalloped edges?

A scalloped edge is one place where you want to use binding cut on the bias.  Having binding cut on the bias makes it easier to follow the scalloped edges without having to tug too much on the binding.

You do need to use binding cut on the bias. I would also recommend you pin the bind when sewing around each scallop. I do this at each scallop, not the whole quilt. The reason for this is that the bias binding stretches and if just sewn around the scallop without pinning it flat it will stretch and cause the scallop to cup and not lie flat. Also you'll need to deal with the area between the scallops. I sew to a point between the scallops and pivot, sewing a few stitches to stop and pin the next scallop. When you fold the binding to the back, there will be a small fold at that area to make it lie flat. Before turning to the back you may also need to clip just short of the stitching to give it ease to be able to turn it to the back. As you hand stitch down the bind be sure to take a couple stitches in the little fold to secure it. The "judges" also like that. Happy quilting!

Using bias as mentioned above is definitely required. As for the inside corners, I have a video that shows some of the basics on how to achieve a nice inside mitered corner. You can see the overview here or purchase a more indepth downloadable video here.
